Bunny Fever

It's spring in Northern Missouri, and that means new life on the farm...including the rabbits! A wild rabbit decided to give birth to her new babies right in the middle of our lawn! 10 feet from the dog pen. Under the clothesline. In the middle of the back lawn. These are brand new babies...they're still furless! The baby bunnies (in the picture at left) are hidden under the fur-lined nest their Momma made them. She was nowhere in sight when I took the picture, but I'm sure she was watching nearby. My husband is out mowing the lawn this evening, and I told him to be sure and skip that part of the lawn for a while!! Usually, these little bunnies are born in less obvious places..not sure why the Momma decided to choose a very open, visual spot. It will be fun to watch them grow and leave the nest!

Awww.. I love bunnies! When I was growing up on the farm in Indiana, our dog Tippy surprised us one day by bringing 4 baby bunnies (their eyes weren't even open yet!) up to the house on the back step. Dad had just plowed up the garden for planting, so we figure that's where they must have come from. We took them in, fed them, and turned them loose a few weeks later. Those 6 AM feedings! Ugh! But they were so cute! (and Tippy never hurt them a bit - go figure...)

That really is strange. I hope they all make it.

I see bunnies in the fields when I go walking, but I haven't seen any nests. This is unique, enjoy watching them grow!

my son does grounds maintenance for a local HS. He has brought me baby ducks & turtles that he's rescued from the lawn mower. He knows like little creatures. Hasn't brought me any bunnies yet. He took one of the ducks to his place and named him/her? Aflac :)

enjoy your bunnies.

Oh, how sweet! It looks and sounds like a dangerous location for those little ones. I hope they stay safe.
